Diabetes is a serious health challenge in the Dominican Republic.

For many people, getting the care they need isn̓t always possible due to lack of access and money. Brenda Campbell, a retired nurse from Canada who has spent every winter here for the past ten years, felt a tug on her heart. She recently helped us start a foot care clinic at our health center to support diabetic patients. Thankfully, we have an excellent doctor (Dr. Rodriguez) who works at the health center every day. Patients who come with serious wounds on their feet can follow up regularly with him.

Sam Perez, a New Missions graduate and current nursing student, is thankful for the opportunity to learn foot care with Brenda.

Not only does Brenda work helping people with diabetes, she cleans and bandages their wounds and is teaching nursing student Samuel Perez how to care for feet. Sam graduated from our high school last year and is now studying to become a nurse. He is eager to learn and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Brenda. Together, they are not just treating feet—they are offering dignity, care, and hope to people who need it most. ~Heather Williams Katz
