In 1983, I went to Haiti leaving children, family, and all that I knew as comfortable and secure.

I lived in a tent for three months in rural Haiti. The tent was not waterproof and we arrived in the rainy season. Many a morning the contents were laid out to dry.

Missionaries came and served alongside New Missions during our founding years and left a lasting impact.

Why did I go? I felt a love that was the love of The Missionary, Jesus–the One who left His home and family to taste and feel the sins and suffering of humanity. It is His love that sent me. There was an immediate bonding to the Haitian women, because at that time, most of them had lost half of their children in childbirth. I cried with them as I had also lost four children.

Our humble beginning started in camping tents where we lived for the first three months.

Beautiful words in the song I Will Go, by Steve Green, express our compatibility with the heart, mind, and will of God. “Give me ears to hear…Give me feet to follow…Give me hands to touch…And the faith to follow You. I will go.”

Jeanne loves baking and gathering women together to learn the greatest hope of knowing Jesus.

God is glorified when we model His love. Now, generation after generation have been compelled to follow Jesus by loving their own people. We are blessed to see many Haitians achieve spiritual and academic excellence which enables them to be missionaries right where they are. You’re a part of this mission through your prayers and generosity. ~Jeanne DeTellis Loudon
