Getting Alone with God

God always gets His man alone. All of the stories in the Bible tell of someone getting alone with God. Abraham, Moses, Joseph, Jacob—even Jesus would get alone with God. One of my favorite stories from the Bible is that of Elijah alone in a cave after calling down fire on Mount Carmel. […]

Dia de la Raza

On the same day Columbus Day is observed in the U.S., Dia de la Raza (Day of the Race) is celebrated in the Dominican Republic. On this day, our students learn about how the island was discovered and founded, and they also learn about different countries and their cultures. Our students are learning about God’s love for everyone—regardless of their color or background. […]

How Can We Honor Children?

Recently, I read an article which stated that children become more emotionally intelligent if they have a close relationship with their grandparents. How many grandparents are on a mission to care for their grandchildren? I am grateful for my parent’s mission to my four children. […]

Here Come Shoeboxes

The doorbell often rings as deliveries of small and large packages are dropped off at our office in Orlando. Carts of shoeboxes line the walls, and extra supplies are organized to be used during processing the boxes. Volunteers come and go—helping us with the extra work. It is time for our Christmas Shoebox Drive! […]

New Church and School

In January of 1983, between two coconut trees, we established our first church by hanging a banner that read: Haiti: Hope in God. Now, 35 years later, we have established our 35th church and school campus. This will mark 30 locations in Haiti and five in the Dominican Republic. This newest campus takes us farther down the southern coastline of Haiti—near Grand Goâve in an area called Fauché. […]

Ministry of the Clinic

We are blessed to have nurses who love the Lord working at our medical clinic. Each day is an opportunity for them to not only meet peoples̓ physical needs, but also their spiritual needs. The physical needs are met through consultations, lab tests, vaccines, medication and education. […]

Are You Too Old or Too Young?

My father was 49 years old when he finally moved to Haiti full-time. You’re not too old for God to use you and you’re not too young, either. At the age of 65 my father moved to the Dominican Republic—having a recent diagnosis of cancer just prior to starting a new work across the North Coast of Sosua. What are you waiting for? […]

Haitians on Mission Trips

Five of our New Missions churches have already been on a mission trip in Haiti this summer, with 175 members participating. One more church will go on a trip before school resumes. Thus far, 26 people have accepted Jesus as Savior through these trips. All of this was independently planned, organized, funded, and executed by the Haitian churches.

They Finally Met

With her passport in her right hand, and a photo of Sandy, the girl her family sponsors from Haiti in her left hand, five-year-old Lilah smiled from ear to ear. The moment she had been dreaming about was finally here. She was going to Haiti with her mom and dad to meet her Haitian sister, Sandy. […]

The Fruit of the Spirit

We need to abide in the vine in order to produce the fruit of the Spirit. I have been feeding my soul with worship music, teaching materials, and I’m also listening to a lot of books. I really feel the need to have written material in front of me in order to meditate upon the truths of God. Yes, I am also reading the Bible. I have the Bible on audio, but still enjoying reading the Bible from an actual hard copy. This way I can highlight certain truths and quickly find these truths again in the future. […]

Accepted

Accepted

After submitting several college applications, my granddaughter received the word “accepted” from the school of her choice. For a child in a Third World country, the word “accepted” is not often heard. For children in Haiti, there is a lack of schools and teachers. For children in the Dominican Republic, there are limited schools—plus transportation and financial constraints. […]

Dominican Republic Update

Our children’s program in Los Castillos has been going strong now for over a year. During the past year, we have seen amazing spiritual growth in the kids. Many of the teenagers have become leaders in the group and leaders in church as well. We recently finished a series with the children talking about different Christian values. We talked about love, respect, honesty, kindness, generosity and many others. […]

Packing Shoeboxes

Each shoebox gift matters—because each child matters to God. We can’t do this without you! As I stood in front of our pastors who gathered at our New Missions church in Signeau, Haiti, I shared how the shoebox gifts we deliver represent God’s love sent from the hearts and homes of people across the United States and Canada. I asked, “How big is God’s love for us?” I responded: “God’s love is so big. We receive so much that we must share it with others!” […]

Kindergarten Graduations

This year, each of our New Missions elementary campuses held a kindergarten graduation. In Haiti, the education system begins with two years of preschool followed by kindergarten. Typically, students are five years old when they graduate from kindergarten. The fact that the child has reached his fifth year is significant, and we love to celebrate fifth birthdays in our schools. In Haiti, the mortality rate for children under five has gradually been decreasing—but it’s
still much higher than most of the world. So, you can see why birthday parties and graduation for this age group are exciting! […]
