An Unexpected Friendship
// Heather Williams Katz
Nicole Suero and Bertha Rojas were classmates at Colegio Nueva Vida, though they were not close friends at that time.
During high school, Nicole began working at our health center, while Bertha worked at our school in Los Castillos. Several years after graduating, Bertha started working afternoons at our preschool in Playa Chiquita, which is also home to the health center. It was there the two reconnected and their friendship truly began to grow.
Nicole and Bertha were classmates in high school and became good friends when they started working at the same location.
Each young woman is special in her own way. Nicole, of Dominican descent, is studying psychology in college, while Bertha, of Haitian descent, is pursuing a nursing degree. Their differences complement one another beautifully, and it has been a joy to watch their friendship blossom. Both attend our young adult Bible class and they encourage one another in their walk with Christ. Coming from challenging backgrounds, their friendship has been a source of strength and perseverance. Please keep Nicole and Bertha in your prayers—that their friendship continues to grow, supporting them in both good times and difficult seasons–drawing them closer to Christ. ~Heather Williams Katz
