Boarding the American Airlines flight from Miami to Puerto Plata was the beginning of Rachel Humston’s first overseas mission trip.

Rachel is a junior in high school and was first introduced to New Missions in April 2019 when she and her father Scott attended a Laugh All Night comedy event in Eustis, Florida. At that event, Rachel sponsored a child from Haiti. Over the years of praying for her sponsored child, packing a shoebox and writing letters, Rachel saw the impact of her prayers and giving.

Rachel's first mission trip also provided the opportunity to meet her sponsor child in the DR.

The day finally arrived when Rachel would be able to travel overseas. It was not a trip to Haiti, yet she was still excited to visit the DR. Her father serves as the family and connections pastor at First Baptist Church of Mount Dora. He also travels as a comedian and illusionist performing for kids at schools—bringing family-friendly entertainment to communities across America.

Bringing laughter and wonder to the students of New Missions was a gift.

Child sponsorship changes the life of a child and your family, too.

Scott offered to visit our schools in the Dominican Republic, and we knew our students would enjoy his interactive performance. During their visit, they met their sponsor child Dahian Martinez Almonte from our preschool in Bombita. Rachel said, “My trip to the Dominican Republic was life-changing. Meeting Dahian face-to-face and being able to hug him was unforgettable.” Scott expressed sharing this trip with his daughter was an experience that changed both of them forever. ~Tim DeTellis
