Living in the Love of God

I believe our biggest need is to have the love of God in our lives.

At times, we neglect this essential element in our Christian walk. We often look for love from the people we spend time with. Many people have experienced a lack of love in their lives. A lack of love causes people to spiral out of control. An individual can look for love in all of the wrong places. We have to slow down and meditate upon the love of God. I am very much guilty of being too busy in life and focused upon completing tasks. The love of God is faithful and true. God has worked to restore and redeem us to Himself.  

In the Bible we are told God is love. “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (I John 4:7-8)  We are taught to love God with our whole heart. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5)  When we focus on God and His eternal kingdom we often think less of our temporary trials on this earth. 

God has promised to be with us. It is easy to think that God is far away from us. This is the furthest from the truth. Yes, we do not see God, but we can very much feel the presence of God. I believe God is the creator of the world and I marvel at His creation. I am awed at man’s ability to think, reason, and speak. Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live our life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

I love the Word of God. It is vital we do our utmost to keep the commandments of God. We are saved by grace. We are also called to walk in righteousness. We give our time and attention to the things we cherish and love. It is vitally important to love our God with all of our mind, soul, and strength. “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:15-18)

We are called to love God and to love others as ourselves. I believe and know spending more time with God will lift our spirits. The world news concerns me. The political situation in Haiti also concerns me. There are many things that are out of our control. Isaiah 41:10 reminds us, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.” We need to change what we can, and not worry about things we cannot change. We need to put our hope, faith, and trust in God. God remains in complete control over this world and our lives. ~Charlie DeTellis
