As we approach the Christmas season, I started thinking of the meaning of the season. My life is full. I love my family, sports and working. I love life! However, we are often reminded how fragile and temporal life can be. We can have a heaviness of heart, especially during the holidays. John 14:1-4 reminds us, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me. In My Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
God has made a beautiful world, but He has made another world beyond what we can ever dream or imagine. Heaven is going to be a place better than life on earth. God has promised to wipe away every tear. Looking to the world beyond gives meaning to this life here on earth. We must live and work with this eternal purpose in mind.
God has revealed Himself to man in His written Word and I feel the closeness of God when I read His Word. He loves us and He is able to meet our needs! But, we all need a measure of personal time with our families, and some time alone to refresh ourselves. 1 John 5:4 says, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world, and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” I cannot imagine living my life without the hope and assurance of my salvation.
Years ago, I was having a health check-up with my doctor. I began talking with him—expressing my concerns about the world. He very calmly declared how these things were necessary in order for prophecy to be fulfilled, and the return of Christ to occur. Worldly things can be taken away from us. However, our faith and life with Christ is eternal.
During the Christmas holidays, enjoy your family and friends. Our home will have the traditional Christmas tree, presents, and stockings. For me, the most important part of any holiday is spending time with family and friends. We are to encourage and love one another. But, always remember the true reason for the season is the gift of our salvation. God sent His Son from heaven to redeem and save mankind—in order to bring us into a loving relationship with Him. It is the greatest love story ever told. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
So, this holiday season… look beyond yourself and your problems. What do you do when your heart is heavy? I only know one thing to do—we need to go to the Lord in prayer. The Lord desires for you to come to Him in prayer. God sent His Son at Christmas. As we journey, in prayer, keep focused on the Kingdom to come.
The entire New Missions staff is praying you will remember Christmas with a heart of joy—as we look forward to the Babe coming again as our King.
