The year was 1983 when George and Jeanne DeTellis left the United States and went to Haiti with whatever they could carry on the plane.
They lived in tents and started a church the first Sunday they were there. A banner hanging nearby read, “Haiti: Hope in God.” Who could have imagined how God would bless such humble beginnings!
Today, those tents are a distant memory. More than 30 years later, New Missions has over 30 churches and elementary schools, high schools, medical clinics, a Bible college, as well a professional trade school.
The purpose of this Christian mission shall be to bear the message of man’s redemption through Jesus Christ to all men, to establish and maintain a place of worship for Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son through the Holy Spirit, and for the promotion of Christian fellowship and edification.
Through the mission, we purpose to minister to the general community by providing churches, schools, clinics and feeding stations, and by teaching agricultural and other skills helpful to the people of Haiti.
Established First ChurchLocated in Bord-Mer, Haiti, our first church was established with a banner tied between two coconut trees that read, "Haiti: Hope in God." We began preaching the Gospel, because only God changes lives forever.
Artesian WallThis well was a geological discovery for the Leogane Plain of Haiti. At 170 feet down we hit an artesian well, providing clean drinking water—coming up out of the ground under its own pressure.
High School and Bible CollegeEstablished in Signeau, Haiti, we opened our high school and Bible college, providing development for a new generation of Christian leaders.
Surpassed 5,000 StudentsOur schools in Haiti surpassed the enrollment of 5,000 students. As we provided food, medical care, and education to these students from preschool through high school, lives were being changed.
Dominican RepublicNew Missions was established in Sosua, Dominican Republic, with the purpose of planting churches and establishing schools. Our focus was to serve children and families along the north coast.
Community Health CenterDelivering vital medical care to children and families, we opened the New Missions Community Health Center in Sosua, Dominican Republic. Health education classes are also taught at this facility.
Haiti EarthquateThe 7.0 earthquake destroyed churches and schools at New Missions, but our churches experienced revival and growth. Following the earthquake, the U.S. military made New Missions their base camp for the southern region of Haiti.
Professional Trade SchoolProviding education in the field of construction and providing jobs to Haitians, our new professional trade school began to pave the way to help build a new Haiti.
32nd ChurchLocated in Decouze, Haiti, our 32nd church was established. This total is comprised of four in the Dominican Republic and 28 in Haiti. These churches serve as our school campuses during the week.
